Every Fandom Needs a Full Roster: Which One Are You, the Lore Keeper or the Merch Gremlin?

Fandom isn't a solo project. It's a heist movie, and every crew has a specialist. You don't get to choose your role — the role chooses you, usually around season two, and then it's yours for life.

Below: the official DittoHolic roster of fan archetypes. Read it. Recognize yourself. Deny it. Then tag the friend who is unmistakably the Merch Gremlin. You know the one.

The Roster

The Theorist. Has a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet has tabs. Has predicted three things correctly and will never let anyone forget it, while quietly burying the forty-one predictions that whiffed. Speaks in "hear me out" and means it with their whole chest.

The Lore Keeper. Walking wiki. Can cite the exact episode, timestamp, and supplemental interview for any canon question. Has strong opinions about which tie-in novels count. Legally cannot let an error stand in the group chat.

The Merch Gremlin. Their apartment looks like a boutique that exclusively sells one franchise. Knows every drop schedule, every con exclusive, every restock. Has said "this is the last one" at least eleven times. It has never been the last one.

The Fanfic Rec Dealer. Doesn't write — curates. Their bookmarks folder is a Library of Alexandria. When they slide into your DMs with "read this and don't talk to me for two days," you clear your schedule, because they've never been wrong.

The First Watcher. Up at 3 a.m. for the drop. Posts zero spoilers but radiates an unbearable, glowing smugness all day. "Oh, you're only on episode four?" is their love language.

The 'It's Been 84 Years' Rewatcher. Has seen the whole series nine times. Has not watched the new season. Will get to it. Probably. Their comfort show is a security blanket and they're not apologizing for it.

The Con-Goer. Plans their entire year around one weekend. Has a badge lanyard collection, a hotel-block strategy, and a war story about a line. Speaks fluent "the line for Hall H starts at 5, actually."

The Cosplay Visionary. Hot glue under the fingernails, a sewing machine named after a character, and a craft-room floor you cannot see. Starts projects three months out. Finishes them in the parking lot of the con. Every time. It's tradition.

The Angst Enjoyer. Their favorite thing is suffering. Recommends media exclusively by how much it will hurt you. "It's so good, I cried in a Waffle House parking lot" is a five-star review in their system.

The Casual Who Is Not Actually Casual. Claims they're "not really in the fandom." Has seen everything twice. Owns the box set. Casually drops lore that took the Lore Keeper three weeks to verify. Sir, you ARE the fandom.

The Archivist. Screenshots everything. When a creator deletes a post, the Archivist has it. When the fandom needs receipts, the fandom calls the Archivist. Slightly terrifying. Deeply necessary.

The Hype Person. Hypes every project, every announcement, every two-second teaser. Their enthusiasm is the group's renewable energy source. When the Hype Person loses interest, the fandom is in genuine, measurable trouble.

The One With a Type. Every fave they have is the same character in a different wig. They know. They've made peace with it. Do not point it out; they will point it out at you.

Your Bingo Card Awaits

Here's the game: screenshot this, send it to your group chat, and assign roles. If your chat is missing an Archivist, recruit one immediately — you're one deleted interview away from needing them. If you have two Fanfic Rec Dealers, congratulations, you're set for life.

And if you read this whole list without recognizing yourself? Bestie. You're the Denier. That's also an archetype. Welcome home.
